Last month we brought you April Shower movies. That rain-soaked cinema has given rise to May Flower movies. Here are five of our favorites. 

Driving Miss Daisy - A story of friendship and bonds that transcend race, religion, ethnicity and many years.

Steel Magnolias - There’s nothing tougher yet more tender than a group of women friends in the south who are all for one and one for all.

Lilies of the Field - An African-American handman happens upon a group of Roman Catholic nuns who have emigrated from Germany. Homer, kind and hardworking, becomes a Godsend to them, building a chapel and changing their lives.

Days of Wine and Roses - Don’t let the title mislead you. Jack Lemmon and Lee Remick shine in a drama portraying a couple’s rise to the heights, aided by booze, and fall to the depths, aided by booze. It received many Oscar nominations, including Best Actor and Best Actress.

What’s up Tiger Lily? – This movie was made from a real Japanese film that is overdubbed with English. There’s only one catch: it has nothing to do with the plot of the original film. The film changes from a spy thriller into a comedy about the search for the world's best egg salad recipe.

The Shawshank Redemption - Cleansing, washing rain. Redemption. Freedom. And oh, what he had to endure to reach it.

Singing in the Rain - It took three days to shoot this scene and Gene Kelly was sick the whole time. Didn’t his mother tell him to come in out of the … never mind.

Seven Samurai - An influential scene that’s been studied and copied for years. And the Oscar goes to…Rain!

Four Weddings and a Funeral - A romcom needs rain. A British romcom needs buckets and buckets of rain.

Blade Runner – Probably the granddaddy of all rainy movies. How long since you saw this classic? Maybe April is the time to see it again.

We take editing for granted in every movie we see these days, and even in our own personal video projects. But just think, a long time ago someone edited a movie for the first time. Here are a few important moments in editing history.

Annie Hall - We mention Annie Hall because it is a supreme example of how creative editing can change the whole face of a movie. Initially shot as a murder mystery, with a little snip here and a cut there (and a name change) became a quirky rom-com. Now that’s editing!

Porky’s Hare - This features a rabbit named “Happy” who was created by Ben “Bugs” Hardaway. One day an animator relabeled the rabbit “Bugs’ Bunny” because it belonged to Ben. And the rest is history.

Ben Hur - A giant step in editing action sequences to make a chariot race look awesome. Still looks good to this day!

Battleship Potemkin - The baby carriage rolling down long steps is an oft-copied sequence that became the great grandfather of modern suspense editing.

The Godfather – A great example of flashback scene editing as Michael recalls his actions during a baptism scene.

In this memorable dinner scene Eddie Murphy played the whole family (except for Hercules.) Best line: “You gonna’ limp back. You can walk over but ya limpin' back!”

After the Bumpus’s dogs devour the turkey Ralphie’s family must eat Christmas dinner at a Chinese restaurant. Best line: “It's a beautiful duck. It really is. But you see..... it's.... smiling at me!”

True family bonding over Dominoes, KFC, and Taco Bell. Best line: “Chip, I'm gonna come at you like a spider monkey!”
