Christmas is a time for peace and goodwill – except in the movies. Whether catching a Holiday movie in a theater or rewatching a classic on television we love our Holiday Hooligans and our Merry Misers. Imagine a Christmas movie where everyone just opened gifts and ate chocolate. We’d be asleep before the first Noel! That’s why Christmas villains are some of the best villains in the world. Here are a few of the most memorable.

The Grinch – (How the Grinch Stole Christmas”) He’s mean, he’s green, and so heartless he even took the last can of Who Hash. Now that’s a villain!

Ebenezer Scrooge - (“A Christmas Carol”) Scrooge’s villainy is the most famous. His last name still stands for miserliness and misanthropy. His oft spoken outburst “Bah, humbug!” is still found on the lips of shoppers stuck at the mall on Christmas Eve.

Mr. Potter - (“It’s a Wonderful Life”) Like Scrooge, Potter is dedicated to his bank account. But he is also civic minded – making sure not to provide assistance to middle class and poor – as it, in his words, produces a “discontented, lazy rabble instead of a thrifty working class.”

Scut Farkas - (“A Christmas Story”) Yellow eyes, evil laugh. But Ralphie gave him his just desserts. Let’s hope he got a lump of coal in his stocking.

Hans Gruber (“Die Hard”) Hans is an 80’s German terrorist who takes company Christmas partygoers hostage at a Los Angeles office tower in a plot to steal $640 million. $640 million? Isn’t that what an NFL quarterback makes a year these days?

My film is very old. Will it transfer?
We make every effort to transfer your film no matter what condition it’s in and we are rarely stumped. We have transferred movies dating as far back as 1916 and usually have no problem with old film.

Will my old 8mm, Super8 or 16mm film look good?
We love home movies and we are on a mission to make sure yours is the best it can be! That's why we've invested in the best film transfer equipment available. We use a completely digital process using the highest quality capture of your film. Another great feature of our system is its sprocketless transport and laser frame alignment. That means no jerky film movement because of damaged sprocket holes. It means you see 100% of the frame even if the film has shrunk.

I remember my parents recorded sound on some of these reels. Will that transfer too?
If there is sound on your reels it will be transferred. What a joy it is to not only see the past but to hear it as well.

What about music or sound on film?
If you like, and most customers do, we include (at no extra charge) background music. It is our own copyrighted score of music, specifically composed for home movie transfers. No music will be recorded in places where you already have sound on film.

Can you make computer files as well as DVDs?
Yes. We can make computer files for PC or Mac.

I want my children and grandchildren to know who some of the people are in my movies. How can I do that?
We can put titles anywhere on your captured film to help you identify where it was taken and who was in the scene.

Can you make copies?
Yes! In fact most our customers make copies to share with relatives and friends. That’s most the fun of get your movies transferred.

I have video tapes starting from the 80’s as well. Can you do those?
Yes, we are a full service video services business and provide the best in VHS, VHS-C, 8mm, and mini DV transfer. In fact we can most likely transfer any tape format you have!

1. First things first. Do you have good video that shows your athlete in their best light? Make sure it’s clear and of good quality.
2. Like a resume a sports scholarship video must be concise and to the point.
3. A sports scholarship video must include your name, school, position, uniform colors, jersey number and current grade level. And don't forget your contact information!
4. Don't forget awards, accomplishments, planned college major, SAT or ACT scores, etc.
5. Use your best highlights first.
6. Most coaches like to see, besides a highlight DVD, a whole game. Put one or two whole games, edited down to just sports action (eliminate time outs, cheerleader routines, etc.) after the highlight section, or better yet, consider a separate disc for the whole game(s).
7. ...and the extra point is good....
8. ... don't forget the packaging. The greatest Sports Scholarship video in the world might be passed over if the packaging isn't appealing.

Visalia, Ca. - Home Video Studio – Visalia recently won a Hanley Award at the 14th annual Home

Video Studio Getaway in Orlando, FL. Home Video Studio is the world’s largest international video production services franchisor with studios located in the United States, Canada and Sweden. Each year HVS hosts a gala “Oscar” type evening to recognize excellence within the franchise and the video industry as a whole.

The Hanley’s, named after Robert Hanley, the founder and president of Home Video Studio, are awarded to recognize a studio owner’s work during the past year. Studio owner Arthur Zepeda submitted his videos in several of the fifteen Hanley award categories, competing with fellow studio owners from across North America.

A judging panel nominated Home Video Studio – Visalia for its submission in the “Best Studio Promotional Video” category. The video featured a description of the many video services that Home Video Studio provides to its customers. A commercial for the studio.

“I couldn’t be more pleased that my video won,” says Art, Home Video Studio owner. “We strive to produce the best work for our customers and it’s nice to know that our colleagues are impressed as well.”

In addition to being an honored guest at the gala black-tie Hanley Awards ceremony, Art attended several days of continuing education in HVS’ proprietary marketing plan, where he sharpened his marketing and sales skills and also audio, color correction, Motion graphics and video compression, all taught by internationally known video expert Larry Jordan.

HVS Top Five “Heat Wave” movies

It’s July and one fun thing to do is sit in an icy theater and watch a movie. Many great ones took place during a heat wave, so sit down, grab a cool beverage, and get ready to sweat.

Rear Window – Jimmy Stewart stars as a photographer confined to a wheelchair because of a work accident. During a summer heat wave, he passes the time by watching his neighbors, who keep their windows open to stay cool. Most of them are just interesting…one may be a murderer.

In the Heat of the Night – Sidney Poitier is a big city African American police detective who finds himself investigating a vicious crime in a racist small town in Mississippi.

The Long Hot Summer – Paul Newman is at his cool best as a drifter who cons his way into the good graces of a Southern aristocrat. As always he gets the girl.

Lawrence of Arabia – O.K. it’s not technically a heat wave because it’s always hot in Arabia! This film is widely considered one of the greatest films in the history of cinema. It depicts experiences in the Arabian Peninsula during World War I and struggles with war, identity, and divided allegiances between country and comrades.

The Seven Year Itch – Marylin Monroe shines in this movie about a guy whose family goes to Maine during a New York heat wave. He stays home, meets the femme fatale, enjoys her company, and in the end remains loyal realizing what he has.
